Women’s Basketball Closes Out MUW, 72-55 at Home

Haley Franklin Records Season-High 32 Points, Six Rebounds, Four Blocks, Three Assists on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. The Millsaps women's basketball team improved to 7-0 at home as they took down MUW, 72-55 on Saturday inside the Hangar Dome. Junior Haley Franklin posted her sixth 30-point game of her Millsaps career to lead the way.
 
The Majors won every statistical category, leading MUW 26-9 in bench points while dominating the paint, 38-14. Millsaps also carried a 16-8 advantage in second-chance points, while holding a 21-9 edge in forced turnovers.
 
Franklin finished with 32 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a career-high four blocks. She shoot 12-of-16 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.
 
Sophomore Elyse Warren chipped in nine points, 11 rebounds and added a steal. Junior Whitney Novak tallied six points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
 
The Majors tallied a season-high 10 blocks, while sophomore Rachel Pflum (five points, three rebounds, two steals) contributed a personal-best five blocks in only nine minutes.
 
Millsaps (9-1, 1-0 SAA) edged ahead, 7-2 following a trey from junior Emily Adams and a Franklin jumper.
 
Midway through the opening quarter, MUW (2-5, 1-2 SLIAC) tied the game at 12-12 before Novak punctuated a 5-0 run with a three-pointer in response.
 
In the second quarter MUW netted 50 percent from the field (5-of-10), but the Majors would close out the period on a 4-0 run to go into halftime out front, 33-29.
 
However, the Majors were able to pull away in the third quarter following an 11-0 run within a larger 14-2 burst. Franklin would tally a free throw at the line to push the game to 57-36.
 
Millsaps would finish the fourth with their largest biggest lead growing to 22 points on three occasions. The Owls would close out the final minutes on 6-2 run, but the Majors would triumph, 72-55.
 
The Majors will be back on the road as they head to New York City for the D3 NYC Invitational, slated for Dec. 19-20. Tuesday's matchup will feature Williams College, beginning at 10 a.m. CT with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
