DANVILLE, Ky. – The No. 3-seeded Millsaps women's basketball team travels to Danville, Ky. for the 2023 Southern Athletic Association Tournament Semifinals. No. 3-seed Millsaps will battle No. 2-seed Rhodes College at 4 p.m. CST on Saturday.
The other semifinal will feature No. 1 and host Centre College along with No. 4 Berry College, which begins at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday. The winners will meet at 1 p.m. CST on Sunday for a chance to claim the SAA Tournament title and advance to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.
Millsaps (19-7, 9-5 SAA) bested No. 6-seed Birmingham-Southern, 84-67 in the SAA Quarterfinal on Sunday, Feb. 19.
Rising freshman
Elyse Warren tallied career-highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds in the win. She has posted six double-doubles over the last nine games entering the weekend.
Sophomore
Haley Franklin nearly notched a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high nine assists. Junior
DeZarae Stewart was also strong with 15 points and seven rebounds, while classmate
Helena Roe tallied 12 points and three boards in the win.
Franklin currently leads the SAA in points scored (499), points per game (19.2 ppg), field goals (174), free throws made (145) and free throws attempted (199).
The Majors split the regular-season series with Rhodes, falling 70-51 in Memphis on Jan. 15, but responded with a 64-49, Senior Day triumph on Feb. 12. Centre downed Millsaps in both meetings, but only by a combined nine points. Additionally, the Majors swept Berry in a pair of contests, 71-58 and 71-67.
Millsaps will be looking for its first SAA postseason crown after reaching the finals on four occasions (2013, 2015, 2016, 2021). The Majors have played in two NCAA Tournaments in program history (1995, 1996).
