JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps women's basketball sophomore
Haley Franklin garnered further recognition after a record-breaking season for the Majors as she was selected to the D3hoops.com All-Region Third Team on Tuesday.
Franklin, who was also picked for the Southern Athletic Association First Team and SAA All-Tournament Team, set the Millsaps single-season scoring record (514 points) and free-throw makes record (156).
The Chemistry major also sits second in scoring average (19.0 ppg), free throws attempted (212) and third for field goals made (176).
Additionally, the Baton Rouge, La., product scored a program-high 35 points against St. Thomas on Nov. 20.
Franklin also led the conference in field goals per game and was fourth in assists with a team-high 79. Her 50 steals also place her fourth across the SAA and she was in the top 10 across several other statistical categories.
Franklin propelled the women's program to a 19-8 finish and spot in the SAA Tournament Semifinals.
A total of 798 student-athletes were nominated this season across the 10 men's and women's regions by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.
All-Region teams were selected by two to three SIDs in each conference as well as those in the conference offices who voted. Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-America selection. The women's All-America team will be announced in late March prior to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championship.
This is the 22nd year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 26th annual All-America selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
