Millsaps Tennis Combines for Three Wins in Tennessee, Arkansas

Majors Swept Hendrix, Women also Downed BSC over the Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. & CONWAY, Ark. – The Millsaps men's and women's tennis programs tallied three wins over a three-day stretch, April 14-16. The Majors swept Hendrix in Arkansas on Sunday, were both downed at Rhodes and the women were victorious against Birmingham-Southern on Friday.
 
Millsaps will conclude the regular season by hosting Centre at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 and are scheduled to finish the weekend at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. with Sewanee on Sunday, April 23.
 
Women's Recap at Hendrix: W, 7-2
 
The Majors won both matches in Conway, Arkansas on Sunday, beginning with the women's strong performance. Sophomore Mary Dabadie and junior Madison Williams provided a win on Court 3 doubles with a 8-6 score.

Millsaps would quickly battle back after trailing 2-1 by sweeping Courts 1 through 6 in singles. Senior Camille Fremaux, junior Madison Williams, Dabadie and freshman Alexis Oliver won in two sets on Court 1 through 4, respectively. Sophomore Segen Lister won 8-4 on Court 6. Additionally, sophomore Mackenzie Vordick battled back after dropping the first set with 7-5 and 10-5 decisions to close out her opponent.

The men closed the weekend with a thrilling back-and-forth triumph against the Warriors. Senior Trevor Vaccaro and freshman Sam Tuli edged their Hendrix foe, 8-7 (7-5) on Court 2 doubles. On Court 3, graduate John Kimball and senior Hamilton Jackson defeated the Warriors, 8-2.
 
Sophomore Carson Chassaignac impressed with a 6-3, 6-0 winner on Court 2 singles. Jackson followed with a crucial victory in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 on Court 4. The match came down to Court 6 where senior Kells Hecht triumphed with a 6-4, 6-2 win. His teammates let out a euphoric yell and mobbed him following the clinching point.

The women's program battled in several matchups with the Lynx on Saturday, but came up short. Dabadie and Williams nearly pulled off another win in Court 3 doubles, falling in an 8-7 (7-5) tiebreaker.

Lister provided a strong triumph on Court 6 with a 6-4, 6-3 winner. Both Williams and Dabadie battled deep into third sets. Williams narrowly fell, 6-1, 2-6, 10-6, while Dabadie was bested, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5.

Rhodes battled the Majors to the end and claimed a narrow victory on Saturday. Chassaignac and junior Jakub Bobinski gave Millsaps a head start with an 8-2 score on Court 1 doubles. Also winning were Kimball and Jackson on Court 3 at 8-4.

Kimball (6-4, 6-4) and Hecht (6-2, 6-3) were victorious on singles Courts 1 and 6, respectively. However, it was not enough as Rhodes fought back with five victories across doubles and singles.

The Majors opened the weekend with a neutral-site match against Birmingham-Southern on Friday. An earlier match scheduled in Birmingham was moved to Memphis due to rain.

Fremaux along with Oliver secured an 8-4 decision on Court 2 doubles, while Williams and Dabadie made quick work on Court 3 with an 8-1 winner.

Millsaps clinched the match with three victories across Courts 2 through 5 in singles. Dabadie, Oliver and Vordick only needed two sets to get the job done. Williams fell in a three-set battle and Lister's match went unfinished.

Millsaps men's tennis began Friday's match, trailing 2-1 following doubles. Kimball and Jackson provided their first of three victories on the weekend with an 8-5 showing on Court 3.

Chassaignac secured a win on Court 2 for singles, 6-1, 6-4. However, the Panthers overpowered the Majors on the other courts for the match victory.
