Baseball Falls in Offensive Slugfest at Huntingdon on Wednesday

Majors, Hawks Combine for 37 Runs, 41 Hits as Case Page Tallies Career-High Six RBIs

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Millsaps baseball team jumped out ahead early, but fell late in a midweek non-conference battle to Huntingdon, 22-15 at the Neal Posey Field on Wednesday.

Offense was in ample supply as the squads combined for 41 hits. The Majors scored the game's first 13 runs, but the Hawks closed strong for the final 16 tallies.

Junior Case Page finished 5-6 with a career-high six RBIs to go along with a run scored. Graduate Chris Hart went 2-3 with four runs, three walks, an RBI and steal. Freshman Mason Morgan completed his day 3-5 with three RBIs, a run scored and stolen base. Additionally, senior Sam Pitre walked twice and accumulated two RBIs.

The Majors opened an early lead over the Hawks with seven walks and three singles in the first. Page singled home a pair of teammates to begin the scoring barrage. Sophomore Bradley Pelle added a hit to score Page. Sophomore  Zac Farris earned a walk for the fourth tally before a Morgan force out brought home the fifth run.

Millsaps continued to dominate moments later with Pelle scoring on a wild pitch. Page concluded the run burst with a two-RBI single to left field.

The visitors added five more scores in the top of the second. Morgan singled home classmate EJ Ousley. A trio of singles followed for four additional runs. Hart and Page both tallied RBI singles, which sandwiched Pitre's two-RBI hit to right field.

Huntingdon used it talons to claw back in the contest with three runs in both the bottom of the second and third.

Page kept the Millsaps momentum going with his sixth RBI of the game in the fourth. Morgan pushed the Millsaps advantage to 15-6 by singling home senior Joshua Laurent.

Huntingdon's pitching then kept the Majors off the scoreboard for the remainder of the evening. The Hawks would then score twice in the sixth, eight times in the seventh and six final runs in the eighth as the Majors deployed a platoon of pitchers.

Millsaps will resume conference play at Berry, beginning with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday. Live video and stats will be available on the baseball schedule page at gomajors.com.
