ATLANTA – A terrific effort in the opening event of the fall golf season propelled Millsaps women's golf junior
Annie Piggott to be recognized by the Southern Athletic Association on Thursday. Piggott was named the SAA Women's Golf Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office.
Piggott finished tied for seventh at the Joe & Lee Duncan Invitational, following three rounds of play on Monday and Tuesday. She shot a plus-5 (69-71-81) at the Mirimichi Golf Course in Millington, Tenn. Her 69 was the lowest one-round score recorded by a Millsaps women's golfer since at least the early 1990s.
The 69 and 71 were her best scores of her collegiate career and she now owns seven rounds of 75-or-lower scores. Piggott also recorded her second collegiate hole-in-one and seventh top-10 finish. The hole-in-one was sunk on the par-three, 130-yard eighth hole with a 9 iron.
The Lindsay, Ontario, product becomes the third student-athlete on the women's side to earn the weekly honor by the SAA.
Danielle Williams received the recognition in 2020 after the spring season was shortened by the pandemic and the league honored all seniors whose collegiate careers were cut short. Additionally,
Lauren Durbin was tabbed the SAA women's golfer of the week following an individual victory at the Hal Sutton Invitational (88-73) in March 2013.
Millsaps will next compete in The Legends Cup at the Legends Golf Club on Lake LBJ in Kingsland, Texas on Oct. 2 and 3.
