MARSHALL, Texas – The Millsaps women's soccer team fought hard, but came up short with a pair of goals in the second half, falling 5-2 to East Texas Baptist University at Cornish Field on Thursday.
Rising freshman
Alex Bremond and junior
Lily Butcher both netted their first goals in a Millsaps kit. Both Butcher and graduate
Mary Ranager tallied two shot attempts, with one on goal each.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Emily Lozano, hailing from Mesquite, Texas, recorded seven saves against the Tigers.
ETBU (1-0-2) recorded a 12-5 shots-on-target advantage and 7-2 edge on corner kicks.
The Tigers powered their first goal of the game in the 36th minute of the opening half. ETBU scored 13 seconds later and made it 3-0 in the 39th minute.
Bremond immediately responded for the Majors in the second half by scoring in the 50th minute after a Millsaps corner kick chance went wide moments earlier.
Lozano would make a pair of saves before ETBU would break through in the 68th minute for a 4-1 lead over the Majors.
Not backing down, Butcher soared a kick that found its way behind, cutting the deficit to 4-2 with just over 14 minutes to play. The Tigers added their fifth tally of the game in the last minute for the final score.
The Majors will remain in Texas as they face off against LeTourneau, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
