MARSHALL, Texas – The Millsaps women's volleyball team out blocked the University of Dallas, but fell in three sets, 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 in the ETBU Tiger Invitational on Friday.
Millsaps (2-3) tallied a 7-6 block advantage, but Dallas (5-1) hit over .300 percent in the first and third sets.
Junior
Anna Capezzera aimed 10 kills, seven digs and four blocks. Classmate
Zoe Elder dished out 25 assists, while she and senior
Brenna Macaluso tallied 13 digs.
The Majors found themselves down by three in the first set, but sophomore
Trista Naquin would answer with a kill and later classmate
Ally Baer responded with her very own, trailing 6-4.
The Crusaders added a 13-1 surge midway through the set to pull away for a comfortable 25-14 advantage in the opener.
Dallas built an early 6-0 lead in the second set before senior
Ashlyn Moore tallied a kill.
A pair of junior
Rylee Stephens back-to-back kills helped the Majors pull within one at 14-13. The Crusaders shifted gears to score 10 of the next 14 points to pull away in the second.
Beginning the last set, Dallas found themselves in a battle with three ties by the time Millsaps led 6-4.
Following a Capezzera kill, the Crusaders made a 6-0 burst to take the final lead of the match. Dallas claimed the final two sets by identical, 25-18 margins.
The Majors will remain at ETBU as they face Hardin-Simmons and University of St. Thomas, beginning at 1 and & 5 p.m., respectively. Live stats will be available for both matches, while video will be provided of the HSU match.
