MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps men's basketball team could not slow Rhodes from three-point range, falling 88-64 inside the Mallory Gymnasium on Friday.
Millsaps (4-11, 3-2 SAA) outscored the Lynx, 32-24 in the paint. However, Rhodes (8-7, 2-2 SAA) shot 54.8 percent from long range (17-of-31) and outrebounded the Majors by a 50-33 margin.
Freshman
Cameron Lumar tallied a team-high 15 points and five rebounds, while adding an assist and steal. Sophomore
Rodney Phillips Jr. chipped in 12 points, five boards and two assists.
Sophomore
Dakota Gasca recorded 11 points and three rebounds, while senior
Aaron Ursin contributed nine points, two rebounds, a block and a steal.
The Majors claimed the game's first basket with an Ursin layup and regained the lead at 4-3 with a Phillips Jr. layup moments later.
The Lynx responded with an early 14-2 run. However, midway into the opening half Lumar netted a field goal to pull Millsaps within two points to trail, 19-17.
Rhodes would swing back and utilized an 18-6 burst to enter intermission out front, 37-23
In the second half, the Majors would score often but the Lynx seemingly pushed back with a trey at every turn. Rhodes finished 62.5 percent from beyond the arc (10-of-16) after the intermission. The hosts would hold for an 88-64 win in Memphis.
