SHREVEPORT, La. – The Millsaps men's and women's swimming diving programs split a pair of dual meets at Centenary College on Wednesday, resuming their 2023-24 campaigns after Winter Break with 14 event wins. The men bested the Gents, 122-95 and the women fell to the Ladies, 136-85.
Millsaps earned a season sweep of Centenary on the men's side. Sophomore
Brian Ridner posted three individual wins to propel the Majors. He won the 100-yard butterfly (57.41 seconds), 100-yard backstroke (1:20.55) and the 200-yard IM (2:07.74).
His classmate
Jackson Van Meter was victorious in both the 50-yard freestyle (27.94) and 200-yard freestyle (2:01.00).
Fellow sophomore
Kaiden Auzenne and
Andrew Meadows were strong and netted event triumphs. Auzenne won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.98 and Meadows claimed first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a swim of 31.86.
The Majors also netted wins in both relays contested. Ridner, Meadows, senior
Casey Miller and Auzenne triumphed in the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.23). Freshman
Payton Jones, Van Meter, Auzenne and sophomore
David Kingsbury helped collect 11 points and ran unopposed in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:22.75).
In the women's competition, junior
Kat Burns was the top Major swimmer with three victories. She claimed first place in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.23), 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.80) and 50-yard freestyle (26.45). Miraculously, Burns tied for the top time in both the 50 free and 100 breast.
Classmates
Chloee Beebe and
Catherine Passarelli were also victorious in the 100-yard freestyle and 1000-yard freestyle, respectively. Beebe covered the pool in 1:01.11, while Passarelli swam the long-distance event in 13:01.37.
The women's team will next host the University of West Florida inside GRIT Training on Friday, Jan. 19, beginning at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. The men will compete in an intrasquad meet during the same time frame and both will be live streamed on the Millsaps College Swimming and Diving Facebook page.
