JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's basketball team closed out the weekend with a strong victory over Berry, 75-54 inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday.
Millsaps (18-3, 9-1 SAA) handled business in every statistical category against Berry (12-8, 6-3 SAA) by erupting with a 52-18 points-in-the-paint margin. The Majors outscored the Berry bench, 39-15 and tallied a 16-4 advantage in fastbreak points.
Sophomore
Elyse Warren was the led scorer for the Majors tallying a double-double with 20 points (8-of-13 FG), while capturing a career-high 20 rebounds along with one steal.
Junior
Haley Franklin also put-up huge numbers by adding 18 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals while shooting 7-of-10 from the field. Freshman
Garin Freeman posted her 11th double-digit game of the season with 15 points, while tallying a career-high five steals, adding four assists and one rebound.
Berry grabbed an 11-4 lead, but a Warren jumper made it 13-11 in favor of Millsaps following an 9-0 run.
The second quarter saw Warren start strong with another basket as the Majors scored 17 unanswered points to lead, 30-13. Freeman would finish the half with a strong jumper assisted by Franklin to hold a 40-16 margin going into the half.
Berry shortened the deficit to 13 points in the third quarter. However, junior
Whitney Novak would net a trey as time expired, giving the Majors a 57-37 edge with 10 minutes to play.
In the final quarter, Berry would cut the lead down to 15 but the Majors would secure the 75-54 triumph. Millsaps improved to 11-0 at home follow the convincing effort.
