ATLANTA – The Millsaps women's basketball team garnered another honor as sophomore forward
Elyse Warren was named the Southern Athletic Association Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week, following a conference coaches' vote and press release on Monday.
It was Warren's second such honor of the season as she now joins junior guard
Haley Franklin with two weekly plaudits during the Majors' stellar season thus far.
Warren posted back-to-back double-doubles over the weekend, averaging 18 points, 15.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.5 assists. She combined to shoot 61.9 percent from the floor (13-of-21) and secured her seventh double-double in the last 10 games.
On Friday in a 66-46 win over Oglethorpe, Warren tallied 16 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and one assist.
She then netted 20 points and secured a sensational 20 boards in a 75-54 win against Berry on Sunday. The 20 rebounds are the most by a Major since
Janice Okeke grabbed 21 against Trinity on Feb. 24, 2012.
Warren currently leads the conference with 217 total rebounds and ranks third at 10.3 board per contest. She is also averaging 11.3 points per game.
Millsaps (18-3, 9-1 SAA) looks to hold its top spot in the SAA standings. The team next travels to face Sewanee on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
