Swimming and Diving Records Event Wins in NCAA DII Matchup

Ben Anderson, Kat Burns Secure Victories as Majors Hosted Montevallo on Saturday

FLOWOOD, Miss. The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs competed well against the University of Montevallo, an NCAA Division II program, inside the GRIT Training Facility on Saturday.

Junior Ben Anderson and senior Kat Burns collected event wins to power the Majors. The visiting Falcons won, 189-50 on the men's side and 197-51 in the women's competition.

Anderson had a stellar meet. He won the 50-yard freestyle (21.68 seconds), was second in the 100-yard freestyle (47.92 seconds) and third in the 50-yard butterfly (25.65 seconds).

Also excelling for the men's team was sophomore Payton Jones as well as juniors Kaiden Auzenne and Andrew Meadows. Jones was runner-up in the 1000-yard freestyle (12 minutes, 13.55 seconds) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:53.00).

Auzenne grabbed second in the 50-yard backstroke (29.95) and Meadows was third in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.40).

A handful of swimmers posted top-four times for the women's team, led by Burns. She claimed victory in the 50-yard freestyle (26.34 seconds) and also placed second in both the 50-yard breaststroke (33.17 seconds) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.69).

Junior Zoe Cowell and senior Catherine Passarelli claimed third in respective events. Cowell swam the 50-yard breaststroke in 34.11 and Passarelli covered the 1000-yard freestyle in 12:48.81. Additionally, Passarelli claimed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:35.55).

Other top-four performances were netted by graduate Ginny Ray Clevenger and freshman Samantha Himel. Clevenger claimed third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.05) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.72), while Himel garnered fourth in the 50-yard butterfly (32.58).

The Majors will return to Flowood, Miss. to host Centenary College for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 26, beginning at 12 p.m.
