JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer battled top Southern Athletic Association contender Oglethorpe, but couldn't extend its conference win streak after falling, 3-0 at Harper Davis Field on Sunday.
Freshman
Ellis Dykes tallied two shot attempts and one on target, while classmate
Nicholas Theriot added a shot on goal.
Junior
Michael Hamauei tied a season-best 10 saves in the matchup.
The first half opened with Hamauei stopping the Stormy Petrels with a nice save created by an Oglethorpe kick in the fourth minute.
In the 20th minute, Hamauei would shut down the Stormy Petrels with another collective save. The Shreveport, La., native would continue to push aside the Stormy Petrel chances with another save at the 26th minute.
The Stormy Petrels would get around Hamauei and earn their first goal of the match seconds later.
Hamauei added his fourth and fifth saves in the 30th and 31st minutes.
The Stormy Petrels recorded the second goal of the matchup after a pass out wide was crossed back across the front of goal a tapped in at the 37th minute.
Down 2-0, Dykes would look to offer the Majors their first score but would miss out high right just before intermission.
The Stormy Petrels would make it 3-0 in the 47th minute off a free kick and header.
Dykes attempted a shot in the 53rd minute looking to get the Major scoring started but was stopped by the visiting keeper.
Hamauei collected additional stops in the 56th, 60th, 65th, 80th and 84th minutes. Theriot had a chance of his own stopped in the 73rd minute of action.
The Majors conclude the regular season in the Riverside Derby at Belhaven on Wednesday. Match start is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
