WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas – The Millsaps women's golf program ended its Fall schedule on a strong note by placing third at the Crusader Cup, following two rounds of action on Monday and Tuesday. Junior
Annie Piggott paced the Majors with a third-place individual showing at the Hawks Creek Golf Club.
Collectively Millsaps finished 13 strokes (353-347—700) back off runner-up and host University of Dallas. Our Lady of the Lake University, ranked No. 37 in the NAIA poll, cleared the field by at least 61 strokes. The Majors finished ahead of Schreiner University, Texas Lutheran University, Centenary College, Lyon College and Howard Payne University.
Piggott carded a plus-14 (77-81—158) and concluded the two rounds one shot behind second place. Annabelle Reyna of OLLU won the event at plus-5. Piggott finished with three birdies, all in the First Round, on the 6,040-yard course.
The Lindsay, Ontario, Canada, product also earned her 10th career collegiate top-10 finish. She closed the Fall calendar with a runner-up performance at the Legends Cup (Oct. 1), triumphed at the FHU Fall Invitational (Oct. 15) and closed in third place on Tuesday.
Freshman
Abigail Cerwick secured her first collegiate top-10 showing and set a two-round low score. Cerwick was tied for sixth a plus-21 (84-81—165).
Senior
Sophia Albasini and junior
Lily Moore were solid as well, placing in the top 30. Albasini tied for 25th at plus-44 and Moore was 27th out of 42 competitors at plus-45.
Millsaps will compete again in the Spring. The schedule will be finalized and announced in the next few weeks at gomajors.com.
