CANTON, Ga. & KINGLAND, Texas – Millsaps senior women's golfer
Annie Piggott secured a runner-up finish at the Legends Cup in Kingsland, Texas on Tuesday. Following a vote by the Southern Athletic Association coaches, she was named the SAA Women's Golf Athlete of the Week on Friday.
Piggott finished plus-2 after two rounds of competition (71-75—146) at the Legends Golf Club on Lake LBJ. It was her fifth SAA weekly accolade after earning a record four such honors in a single season as a junior.
The Lindsay, Ontario, product carded four birdies and earned her eighth top-five performance of her collegiate career. She was narrowly defeated on the third playoff hole in hopes of claiming the overall win. Piggott was named to the Legends Cup All-Tournament Team. Piggott parred the first playoff hole, bogyed the second along with her Mary Hardin-Baylor opponent and was bested by a birdie on the third hole.
Also performing well for the Majors at the Legends Cup was freshman
Abigail Cerwick, who finished 27th out of 50 competitors. She carded a plus-22 after two rounds (86-80—166).
Senior
Sophia Albasini (40th) and junior
Lily Moore (45th) also added to the Millsaps team score in Texas. Albasini closed at plus-30 (90-84—174) and Moore carded plus-35 (90-89—179).
Millsaps finished eighth out of nine teams. The Majors will be back in action at the FHU Fall Invitational in Henderson, Tenn., Oct. 14-15. Freed-Hardeman University will host at the Chickasaw Golf Club.
