Rhodes Halts Women’s Soccer in SAA Tournament Opener

Majors Bested by Lynx, 5-0 on Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps women's soccer program held a potent Rhodes attack down, but were bested 5-0 in the Southern Athletic Association First Round matchup at the Rhodes Soccer Field on Saturday.

Millsaps junior goalkeeper Emily Lozano made 11 saves, while sophomore Becca Quick provided a shot on target.

Rhodes (11-3-1, 4-1-1 SAA) entered as the No. 2 seed and fired off 16 shots on goal. Millsaps (2-14-2, 0-6 SAA) tied the Lynx with four fouls each.

Lozano, recently named All-SAA Honorable Mention, stopped the first on-target shot in the eighth minute.

The Lynx managed to net their next two shots on goal in the 19th and 31st minutes, building a 2-0 advantage.

Lozano stopped Rhodes again seconds later and once more in the 42nd minute. The Lynx continued to pressure and scored with one minute remaining in the opening half.

Rhodes pulled away with its fourth goal in the 53rd minute. Not giving up, Quick launched a shot in the 56th minute but was stopped by the home keeper.

Lozano continued to push Lynx chances to the side until Rhodes made it 5-0 in the 85th minute. Freshman Vivian Jordan relieved Lozano with 1:10 remaining after a valiant defensive effort.
