JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team put up a fight on the diamond but fell short, 7-5 to MUW at Twenty Field on Tuesday.
The Majors stole six bases in the contest for 21 through seven games on the young season, which ranks second across NCAA Division III.
Both junior
Evan Scott and senior
Jackson Ware batted 2-for-4 and recorded an RBI and a stolen base. Junior
Gray Berry added a hit, walk, steal and scored twice, while sophomore
Mason Morgan registered a hit, run, RBI, walk and steal.
Senior pitcher
Clay Busby was strong in 2.2 innings of relief with no hits, walks or runs against with three strikeouts. Classmate
Jackson Hood pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
MUW (3-1) put up two runs off three hits and a walk to get the scoring started in the first inning. In the top of the second inning, the Owls would move ahead 3-0 following a hit by pitch, steal and error.
Millsaps (4-3) responded in the same second inning as Ware singled up the middle to score Morgan, who had walked a stole second, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Branyan Bounds. An Owl wild pitch then tied the contest as Pelle used a heads-up play to race home from third as the ball bounced behind the catcher.
A sharp single to third by Morgan gave the Majors their first lead of the game when Berry touched home plate from third.
MUW loaded the bases in the fourth and used a sacrifice fly to even the contest again at 4-4. Another sacrifice fly later gave the Owls a 5-4 advantage.
The Owls made it 7-4 with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh. The Majors would not give up as Scott blasted a hit through the left side in the bottom of the same frame to send Berry home.
Both teams would remain scoreless with Ware advancing to third in the eighth following a double and wild pitch. The Owls ended the threat and kept Bounds from scoring in the ninth after he led off with a single up the middle.
MUW closed the game with a fly out and unassisted double play at first base for the 7-5 decision.
The Majors will return to action as they host Westminster at Twenty Field on Friday and Saturday. Friday features a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. and Game Three commences at noon on Sunday. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
