JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team fell one run short, falling 7-6 in a Game Three battle against Rhodes College at Twenty Field on Sunday.
Sophomore
Gavin Tranchina tossed 2.1 innings of relief allowing no walks, four hits, one run, while striking out two Lynx batters. Senior
Jackson Hood pitched the final three innings with two runs against, three walks and two hits to go along with three strikeouts.
Junior
Gray Berry tallied two hits, including a three-run homer and scored a run. Senior
Case Page added a solo homer, scored twice and walked. Additionally, junior
Bradley Pelle garnered a hit, RBI, walk and scored a run.
Rhodes (8-7, 3-2 SAA) built a 4-0 cushion with a pair of runs in both the first and third innings. They'd add another run in the fifth to extend their advantage to 5-0.
Millsaps (11-6, 1-2 SAA) would get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning after Page led off with a single, advanced with a wild pitch and throwing error on the Lynx right fielder. Pelle recorded an RBI ground out to make it 5-1.
Senior
Jackson Ware began the sixth with a single, stole second and reached third on an out play. Junior
Evan Scott then provided an RBI ground out to bring Ware home.
Rhodes made it 6-2 in the top of the seventh, but Berry powered a three-run homer over the left-field wall to cut the deficit to 6-5.
The Lynx again added breathing with a run in the eighth. A solo homer by Page in the bottom of the frame brought the Majors back within one once more at 7-6. Rhodes would hold for the series deciding win with a fly out and pair of strikeouts in the ninth.
