ATLANTA – The historic junior campaign for Millsaps women's golfer
Annie Piggott marched on as she was selected the Southern Athletic Association Women's Golf Athlete of the Week for a record-breaking fourth time by league coaches on Monday.
A total of five student-athletes had previously been named SAA Women's Golfer/Athlete of the Week three times in a single season, including Piggott until Monday's league-wide announcement. The SAA has bestowed weekly honors for 12 seasons and dates back to 2013.
Piggott made history after claiming her first collegiate victory at the 2024 Hal Sutton Invitational on Tuesday, March 19.
She cleared the field of 39 competitors by four strokes, finishing 11-over after two rounds and closed with an event best three-over 75 in Round Two. Piggott was tied for first with a Round One eight-over 80 on Monday and left the competition behind from there on Tuesday.
The Lindsay, Ontario, product was the first Millsaps women's golfer to win an event since March 2013. Piggott now holds three top-four performances in 2023-24.
The Millsaps men's and women's golf teams will next both travel and compete in the Wolf Pack Invitational in New Orleans, La., April 8-9.
