DICKSON, Tenn. – The Millsaps men's and women's golf programs ended the 2024 SAA Golf Championship in emphatic fashion by making history at the Greystone Golf Club on Sunday. Freshman
Preston Severs and junior
Annie Piggott each finished third to become the first Majors to earn First Team All-SAA honors in school history.
Severs helped the men's team finish sixth and fire their lowest-ever round at the SAA or SCAC Men's Golf Championship, dating back to 1992, with a 290. The Majors improved round by round (304-297-290) over the weekend, with the Final Round score being second best in the eight-team field. The previous low round by the team was 295 set in 2015. Sunday's Final Round was on a Par-72 course covering 6,709 yards.
Severs moved up 14 spots on the leaderboard and only finished one stroke back of the winner of the tournament at Even par (74-74-68). The Final Round saw Severs card two eagles and tally the lowest score of all the competitors.
Piggott ended the event at plus-7 (73-74-76) with nine birdies and 32 pars. Her birdie count was tied for the most out of the 39 challengers.
Severs and Piggott's three rounds of scores were also the lowest since 1992 records were kept in the SCAC and SAA eras for any Major. Piggott posted the highest-ever placement covering the same period in program history, while Severs placed the highest since the 1993 season.
Lauren Durbin was named All-SAA Second Team on three occasions (2013, 2015, 2016), while four Millsaps men's golfers earned the same honor. The men's program has featured several First Team All-SCAC performers (1992-2012), but none with the SAA.
On Sunday for the women's side, junior
Sophia Albasini closed in 33rd place (95-79-88) and sophomore
Lily Moore placed 39th on the par-72 course (5,601 yards).
Millsaps men's golf freshman
Juan Moral also improved with each round, closing at plus-10 (78-75-73) in 23rd position. Moral's lowest round of the season on Sunday was helped with 38 total pars, ranking second most in the field.
Graduate
Krtin Udith battled in his final event as a Major and carded his lowest round of the year at 2-over 74. He finished tied for 27th (75-79-74) with fellow classmate
Price Bryan (79-74-75) at plus-12.
Junior
Will Danielson accumulated the most birdies for the Majors with seven and finished in 39th (77-76-81). Freshman
Davin Karst, competing in his second event since October, placed 42nd at plus-22 (80-74-84). Severs totaled 37 pars, Bryan added 34 and Karst tallied 33. Additionally, Moral improved four spots and Udith moved up five positions on the final day.
Piggott and Severs will now await to see if they've played well enough this season to secure an individual invite to the 2023-24 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Golf Championships. The men's team and individual selections will be announced Monday, May 6 and the women's field will be revealed on Monday, May 13.
