Centre Claims Saturday Doubleheader over Baseball

Majors Fall in Tough Series 11-1, 2-0 at Twenty Field

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team (13-18, 3-11 SAA) was taken down by Centre (22-8, 9-5 SAA) in a tough doubleheader, 11-1 and 2-0 at Twenty Field on Saturday.

Game 1: 11-1, L, (7 inn.)

Junior Bradley Pelle finished 2-for-4 at bat with a double, while classmate Evan Scott tallied a solo home run and scored a run. Junior Gray Berry walked and was hit by two pitches.

Centre tallied two runs in the top of the second inning and later added a third in the top of the third.

In the bottom of the fourth, a Scott leadoff home run would give the Majors their first score of the game.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, the Colonels would add six runs to increase to a 9-1 margin.

The Colonels closed out the seventh inning with three hits and a walk to put the run rule into effect and claim a Game One victory, 11-1.

Game: 2-0, L (7 inn.)

Graduate Wil Wood did all he could, pitching all seven innings with nine strikeouts. He held the Colonels to two runs, two walks and five hits.

Sophomore EJ Ousley went 2-for-3 and stole a base, while Berry added a hit and walked once. Senior Case Page walked twice in Game Two.

Wood struck out the side in the top of the second before the Majors put runners on first and second with one out in the same inning. However, a caught stealing play occurred on a hit-and-run and ended the early chance.

In the bottom of the third, the Majors would threaten again with the loaded bases following three walks. A ground out would put away the inning.

Centre would then score the only runs in the top of the fourth inning with three singles and a double to make it 2-0. Millsaps would be held scoreless the remainder of the game.

In the seventh inning, the Majors would try to make a comeback as Ousley would single up the middle and later steal second. The Colonels closed out the Majors with a strikeout swinging to claim Game Two.

Millsaps will remain at home and close the series against Centre on Sunday, beginning at 12 p.m. Live video and live stats are available at gomajors.com.
