Women’s Basketball Recognized on 2023-24 WBCA Academic Honor Roll

Majors Tally Impressive 3.543 Team GPA During Championship-Winning Semesters

ATLANTA – The Millsaps College women's basketball program was recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for the academic accomplishments following a banner season. On Wednesday the Majors received Special Mention status on the 2023-24 WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll.

Special Mention was given to teams that posted at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA during the 2023-24 seasons for women's basketball teams across NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year colleges. The Majors shattered this threshold with a stellar 3.543 cumulative overall GPA in the classroom. For DIII, the Top 25 teams earned GPAs ranging from 3.856 to 3.686.

Equally impressive was the Majors' work on the court in which the team advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship after claiming the Southern Athletic Association regular-season and postseason titles. Millsaps also set program records for total wins (24) and home triumphs (16-0).

The 2023-24 season is the 29th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls and includes student-athletes on rosters for the entire season.

Youngstown State, coached by John Barnes, finished first among NCAA Division I members with a 3.868 cumulative team grade-point average. Ashland, coached by Kari Pickens, claimed top academic honors in the NCAA Division II with a 3.875 GPA. Williams, coached by Patricia Manning, took top honors in NCAA Division III with a 3.856 GPA. Sterling, coached by K.C. Bassett, was No. 1 in the NAIA division with a 3.831 GPA. Folsom Lake, coached by Ali Mollet, finished atop the two-year college standings with a 3.564 GPA.

"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The 112 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"

During the Fall 2023 academic term, the program reached a 3.48 cumulative GPA and bettered with a 3.576 combined GPA in the 2024 Spring semester. In addition to the team's hard work on the court, 12 of the 16 student-athletes posted a 3.50 GPA or better during the Spring semester.

Sophomore Elyse Warren, hailing from Memhis, Tenn., was a key factor in the Majors academic success off the court. She is currently majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Mathematics and tallied a perfect 4.0 GPA both semester. Warren has made Club 40 twice, was a member of the 2023-24 CSC Academic All-District® Women's Basketball team and has been acknowledged twice as an SAA Academic Honor Roll student.

Classmate Kayla Ngo, from Houston, Texas, helped the Majors make the list as well, earning a flawless 4.0 GPA to date. The sophomore is currently a three-time member of Club 40, twice an SAA Academic Honor Roll student and a distinguish student-athlete on the 2024 Spring President's List.

Freshman Tia Anderson of Brusly, La. boasted a 4.0 Spring GPA, topped the Spring SAA Academic Honor Roll and made the 2024 Spring President's List like her teammates.
