Volleyball Brushes Past Huntingdon, 3-0, at Home on Thursday

Majors Next Host Millsaps Invitational, Friday and Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps volleyball team (7-1) kept their now seven-game winning streak alive after taking down Huntingdon, 3-0 on Thursday inside the Hangar Dome. 
 
Senior Anna Capezzera led the way with 16 kills and seven digs, junior Ally Baer totaled nine kills and three blocks, while classmate Mallory Richardson recorded six kills. 

Junior Olivia Danos posted nine digs, while senior Zoe Elder equaled nine digs and 31 assists.

In the beginning of the match both teams equaled points before Millsaps would utilize a 4-0 run following a duo of kills from Richardson, a single kill by Baer alongside a service error to lead Huntingdon, 8-5.  

Moments later the Hawks would respond on their own 5-0 run to lower the deficit to 14-12 in favor of the Majors.  

Millsaps would attack back with another Richardson kill, a Capezzera kill and two attack errors to pull away from the Hawks, 19-14.  

Huntingdon would call a timeout, as Millsaps would gain help from a Baer kill, a service error and Danos service ace giving the Majors a first-set victory. Capezzera would finish the first set with a kill to surpass Huntingdon, 25-19. 

In the second set, Millsaps took down the Hawks early following a 6-1 run. However Huntingdon would draw back with a kill and two attack errors to cut the match to 12-9.  

Millsaps staying on task used a 4-0 run, but was answered by Huntingdon 5-0 rally  to trim the Majors lead down to 18-17. 

The Majors would go up by three points following a kill and an attack error, but Huntingdon would draw the match at 20-20.  

Millsaps would regain their lead at 22-20 from a kill and an attack error. Huntingdon continuing to battle however would have their first lead of the set at 24-23, with the set in the balance. 

The Majors would call timeout as both teams would come to a draw on the next play. Millsaps would capture a 4-1 run to take down Huntingdon on a ball handling error to win the second set by a close margin, 27-25.  

In the final set, the Majors opened on a 6-1 run, following two Capezzera kills and a Naquin kill. A pair of kills by Huntingdon would cut the set down, 12-10 in favor of the Majors.  

Moments later both teams would see each other tied at 19-19 with the Hawks seeing their way back in the match.  

A crucial Millsaps 3-0 run gave would give the team a 22-19 advantage. A service error, Elder kill and attack error eventually clinched the final set, 25-21.
