Dawson Alexandre, Connor Stegeman Score to Uplift Majors

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team (2-3-2) captured their first home victory of the season, taking down Tougaloo College, 2-0 at Harper Davis Field on Thursday.

Graduate Connor Stegeman and freshman Dawson Alexandre both led the Majors with goals scored in the triumph.

Freshman Ellis Dykes recorded five shot attempts and three shots on goal, with an assist, while junior Fisher DeCamp held one assist and two shot attempts. Classmate Sam Cagle accumulated a shot on goal as did junior Ai Suzuki

Tougaloo College (0-4-1) was outshot 17-14 advantage in shots faced. Junior goalkeeper Michael Hamauei stopped all five shots he faced for the shutout.

In the beginning of the match, a Cagle shot narrowly missed and was stopped in the eighth minute.

As the first half continued, the Bulldogs worked down the field and at the 22nd minute following a shot Hamauei would alter its path for the save.

Tougaloo would continue to battle Hamauei at the 29th minute on two consecutive kicks, but the Shreveport, La., native would push aside both kicks to keep the match scoreless.

The Millsaps offense would come alive with 15 minutes left in the first half as Alexandre would top the Bulldogs, 1-0 following a score off his right foot. DeCamp connected for the assist on Alexandre's first collegiate goal.

In the closing moments of the first half, Millsaps would have the opportunity to build their lead as Alexandre soared past defenders. The Memphis, Tenn., native would be left with a boot off the left post.

In the 58th minute, Stegeman would score his first goal of the season as he fired a lazer from just outside the box. Dykes was credited with the assist.

The Bulldogs would almost get on the scoreboard in the 90th minute, but would narrowly miss the shot off the left post.

Millsaps would end the match with a 2-0 triumph over crosstown foe Tougaloo College on Thursday night.
