JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team gave their all in a 2-1 loss against East Texas Baptist University on Wednesday night at Harper Davis Field. A late goal was the difference in a hard-fought, even battle.
Junior
Hogan Payne, an Itawamba Community College transfer, recorded his first collegiate goal for the Majors while recording three shots on goal. Freshman
Ellis Dykes finished with two shots on net and four total chances at goal.
Millsaps tallied 13 total shots while the Tigers amassed 16 shots. The Majors led with six shots on goal to ETBU's five.
ETBU tallied five saves against the Majors' three, while both teams accumulated 11 fouls. Millsaps also held a 4-2 corner kick advantage.

East Texas Baptist took the first lead, 1-0 in the first half within the 21st minute of the match. However, Payne would score his first collegiate goal nine minutes later with a breakaway chance and shot across goal. A pass from Cagle sprang Payne down the field on the opportunity to tie the match at 1-1.
Following the 32nd minute on the clock, the Majors would look to break the draw with a kick by Dykes, but the shot would be caught by the Tiger keeper.
Both teams would continue to compete and play hard on the field to end the first half in a draw. The Tigers would open the second half with a shot at the 47th minute but would be pushed away by a Hamauei save.
The teams traded chances late into the match, but ETBU would take the lead in the 88th minute when a loose, bouncing ball was pushed into the net. The heartbreaking goal closed out the match, 2-1 against the Majors on Wednesday night.
