CONWAY, Ark. – The Millsaps men's basketball team used a balanced effort to down Hendrix College, 78-59 inside the Grove Gymnasium on Tuesday.
Junior Caleb Kent led the Majors with a double-double of 21 points and season-highs of 12 rebounds and five assists.
The Madison, Miss., added one steal to accolades while shooting 8-of-11 from the floor and 5-for-7 at the foul line.
Senior Drew Roth stood out as well with 14 points, one steal and an assist against the Warriors.
Graduate TJ Hogan had a great performance on the court where he reached a career-high of 12 points and a season-high of six rebounds. Hogan also added two steals and on defense and two assists, while playing 29 minutes.
Sophomore Cameron Lumar recorded a season-high seven rebounds, while contesting 10 points, two assists and one steal.
Senior Nicholas Ughovwa posted eight points and set a career-high of four assists. Ughovwa's hard work also garnered six rebounds and four blocks inside the paint.
Junior Dakota Gasca set the tone with seven points, three assists, one rebound and one steal. He also shot 4-for-6 from the free-throw line to help the Majors down the stretch.
The Majors shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) and held the Warriors to only 28.6 percent (18-of-63).
Millsaps controlled the points in the paint (32-10) and in the fast break (14-2).
Hogan scored the Majors' first points following a three-pointer beyond the arc.
Both teams would push the tempo down the court early before the Warriors would stretch out a 7-3 lead off a long-range shot.
The Majors would see their first lead of the half at 8-7 as RJ VanBeber knocked down a trey.
Midway through the first half, the Majors would continue using the arc as Roth and Hogan splashed a pair of triples.
Gasca would make another Millsaps long-range shot down the stretch to close out the half 35-34 in the Majors' favor.
Kent's floating jump shot continued the Majors' offensive strategy only 11 seconds into the second half. A Lumar three-pointer, steal and layup would extend the team's lead by seven points with 16:31 minutes to go.
After being down by seven, the Warriors would cut their deficit to 46-44 in response.
VanBeber then fired a three-pointer with 12:51 remaining to increase the team's momentum by five points.
Leading 53-51, Roth then shook the gymnasium following an alley-oop slam dunk off a feed by Gasca.
Prompted by a jumper, Roth would soon put the Majors into an 11-point lead with six minutes until the end of the game.
Ughovwa later threw down a slam dunk of his own as the Majors cruised ahead of the Warriors, 70-55.
The Majors would conclude the final minutes by making eight free throws to close out the second half victorious with a 78-59 win over the Warriors.
