Cross Country Finishes Strong at Watson Collegiate Classic

Devion Hart Places 66th in Quality Races on Friday

CLINTON, Miss. The Millsaps men's and women's cross country programs hit the ground hard, excelling well in the Watson Collegiate XC Classic. The men's team finished 13th out of 24 NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA and JUCO schools at the Choctaw Trails on Friday morning.

On the men's side, three Majors set a personal best at eight kilometers. Freshman Devion Hart continued to make a name for himself by finishing 66th in 27 minutes, 3.7 seconds. Sophomore Greer Hernandez finished close behind his fellow teammate in the 71st spot, concluding his time in 27:17.2. 

Freshman Mason Castleberryanother young leader on the squad, crossed the finish line in 92nd place and posted a PR of 27:56.1 on the finish clock. Classmate Dallas Stricker also stood out on the off trails as well as the Picayune, Miss., native reached the end line in 97th position with a 28:06.7 finish.

Sophomore Phillip Antis (161st, 30:28.7) and freshman Wyatt Wheeler (198th, 36:35.1) finished strong for the Majors and both also set PRs. 

On the women's side, sophomore Claudia Dempsey performed her best effort on the off-road course. Despite rolling her ankle, she concluded her run in 87th place while setting a 6K personal record in 26:31.5.

Freshman Molly Northam completed her long-distance run in 132nd place (29:35.0) to display a solid finish. Fast moving on their feet, freshman Sara Grace Hoggatt (141st, 30:34.5) and sophomore Taylor Sutton (158th, 34:37.8) also crossed the finish line to represent the Majors well. 

The Majors will return and be ready to run in the 2025 SAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by  Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday, Nov. 1. the men will compete at 10 a.m., while the women's will start at 11 a.m.
