SEWANEE, Tenn. — The Millsaps men's and women's cross country teams made the trip to Sewanee on Saturday to compete in the Mountain Goat Invitational.
Sophomore Dallas Stricker led the way for the Majors, placing 17th out of 81 finishers with an 8K time of 27 minutes, 48.3 seconds. Something to be proud of was the Picayune, Miss., native's best finish in his collegiate career thus far. We can expect more from Striker as his Fall slate continues.
Helping the Majors as well, Canton, Miss., product classmate Benjamin Sylve, crossed the finish line in the 35th spot while also establish a personal record in 28:57.6 at the Mountain Goat Course.
Sophomore Mason Castleberry thrived for the Majors, finishing 44th with a time of 29:34.0.
Freshman R.T. Tate also recorded a personal best, placing 51st at the invitational with a time of 30:10.7.
Classmate Kameron Willson set an individual best in his third meet as a Major where he reached the finishing point in 52nd place at 30:17.9 to complete the scoring.
Junior Phillip Antis posted a time of 30:34.7 to finish 56th at the invitational, while freshman Om Patel also recorded a personal-best time, placing 67th in 31:40.7.
First-year runner Jonathan Brister concluded his stay in Tennessee by finishing 74th (34:00.3).
Classmate Demaurien Graves added another personal record for the Millsaps College men's cross country team, finishing 75th with a time of 35:42.0 to close out the Majors' trip to the Mountain Goat Invitational.
On the women's side, junior Claudia Dempsey showed up for the Majors by owning the 33rd spot with a strong performance, closing the 6K course in 26:59.1.
Freshman Caitlyn Bounds was the second-fastest Major in the meet, where she touched the crossing mat in 57th place in 30:12.9.
Freshmen Marlina Jones (61st, 30:40.7), Lila Jane Sekinger (63rd, 30:47.9), and Myla Walker (67th, 31:46.2) all finished strong for the Majors, helping the team close out the race on a high note.
The Majors will next travel to the Watson Collegiate Classic on Friday, Oct. 17, which will be hosted by Mississippi Christian University, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Choctaw Trails.
