Women's Soccer Falls to Rhodes, 3-0 in Regular-Season Finale

Lozano Climbs Up Major Record Book on Senior Night

JACKSON, Miss.  The Millsaps women's soccer team concluded their regular season with a hard-fought 3-0 defeat during Senior Night against Rhodes College on Friday.

The team honored five players for their exemplary representation of the college both on and off the field prior to first kick. Seniors Myah BeebeHaley JamesEmily Lozano, Keely Marshall and graduate student Lily Butcher were recognized prior to kickoff.

Lozano delivered an outstanding performance in her Senior Night finale, tying a career-high 15 saves against the Lynx. The Mesquite, Texas, goalkeeper concluded her collegiate career with 444 total saves, tying her for second place in the program's all-time record books.

Additionally, her 170 saves during the season also rank as the third-highest single-season total by any Major in the program history.

Freshman Lola Downer and sophomore Abby Wiard contributed offensively in the game against the Lynx, with Downer recording one shot on target while Wiard added one shot attempt.

In the opening minutes of the first half, Lozano started inside the goal by collecting two consecutive saves to give the Majors an early burst of energy.

Rhodes though scored in the sixth minute to grab an early 1-0 lead in the match. Despite facing continued pressure from the Lynx offense, Lozano made important saves at the eighth and 16th minutes.

Following a solid defensive effort from the Majors, the opposing team managed to score a goal, extending their advantage to 2-0 in the 37th minute.

Rhodes increased their advantage to 3-0 in the 63rd minute during the second half. However, the Lynx struggled to solve Lozano's goalkeeping prowess for the rest of the match as she made eight saves in the second stanza alone.

In the final moments of the match, Downer and Wiard took contested shots in the 88th and 90th minutes as the Majors sought to score and break the shutout. Despite these late efforts, the Lynx successfully maintained their advantage until the final whistle, securing a victory over the Majors on Friday night.
