Men’s Basketball Out-Hoops the Kangaroos, 92-71 on Monday

Davion James Nets 24 Points as Majors Overwhelm Austin College

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps men's basketball defeated Austin College in a Monday matinee, 92-71 inside the Hangar Dome.  
 
Millsaps controlled the game from the start, outscoring Austin 47-33 in the first half, including a 14-0 run to start the game. 
 
The Majors dominated inside, scoring 62 points in the paint, and were led by their bench, which contributed to a 34-11 advantage. Millsaps also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 21 points off Austin's 20 turnovers. 
 
Millsaps improved to 5-0 overall after their decisive victory. Austin fell to 0-3 on the season. The Kangaroos held one advantage, claiming a 22-11 edge in second-chance points. 
 
The home team outshot the visitors 51.5 percent (34-of-66) to 38.9 percent (28-of-72) as well. 
 
Junior Davion James led the team with 24 points, including two 3-pointers, and added three steals, while shooting 6-of-7 from the free-throw line and 8-of-14 on the floor. 
 
Classmate Jaxon Toney contributed 16 points and secured 10 rebounds, demonstrating his presence on the court where he added a double-double. 
 
Senior Caleb Kent tallied 14 points and recorded three steals as well, showcasing his defensive capabilities.  
 
Junior David Combest Jr. added six assists and collected seven rebounds, contributing significantly to the team's playmaking efforts. 
 
Classmate Rodney Phillips Jr. accumulated 10 points, six rebounds while shooting 4-of-7 from field goal range and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. 
 
Millsaps took control early in the opening half with a strong start, building a 14-0 advantage before the first media timeout. 
 
Despite Austin's attempts to close the gap, the Majors held firm, leading 47–33 at the end of the half. 
 
Millsaps extended its lead significantly during the second half, propelled by Toney's performance, who contributed a 3-pointer and multiple layups early in the half. 
 
Kent's fast-break layup at 15:53 further increased the momentum, reinforcing the Majors' control. Millsaps also capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line, converting 12 of 16 attempts in the second half. 
 
By maintaining a strong presence in the paint and outscoring Austin in bench points, Millsaps finished the half with a 45–38 scoring edge. Millsaps' lead grew to as many as 26 points as the Majors cruised to a 92-71 triumph.
