Men’s Basketball Responds in Rematch over Ozarks

Majors’ All-Around Effort Bests Eagles, 89-74 on Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps College men's basketball team secured revenge over the University of the Ozarks, 89-74 on Tuesday inside the Hangar Dome.

The Majors led throughout the game, securing the win with 42 points in the paint and capitalizing on 11 steals. They also received significant contributions from their bench, adding 39 points to the total. The Eagles made 12 three-pointers (35 percent shooting), but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Millsaps closed non-conference play with a 9-2 record, while the University of the Ozarks dropped to 1-10 on the season.

Junior Davion James had an outstanding performance on the court where he led the Majors with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Brandon, Miss., product stood out well against his opponents shooting 8-of-12 from the floor while recording two steals on defense.

Classmate Colt Donley contributed a season-high 16 points while adding six rebounds to his game. The Newnan, Ga., native also looked impressive shooting 6-for-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Junior Rodney Phillips Jr. Was a dominant force on the boards, finishing with 11 rebounds to help the Majors propel on defense. Senior Dakota Gasca chipped in season-bests of 11 points and four assists.

Millsaps opened play with a series of scoring opportunities, highlighted by a James early layup a minute in. The home team maintained momentum with consistent defensive rebounds and forced turnovers, setting the pace with a 11-point advantage midway through the half.

Donley and James led the offensive charge, each contributing key field goals and assists. Despite a push from the Eagles to narrow the gap, the Majors closed the first half ahead, 46-35.

Millsaps initiated the second half with a quick layup by Donley at 19:52, assisted by junior Cameron Lumar, continuing the momentum. The Majors extended their lead to 54-40 three minutes in through a series of successful layups, including contributions from junior Jaxon Toney and Gasca assists.

The home team further widened the gap, with James scoring consistently, including a layup at 7:32 following a steal. Millsaps built a lead as large as 28 points and cruised to an 89-74 triumph, with 18 Majors setting game action.

The Majors next open up 2026 with Southern Athletic Association action on Saturday, Jan. 3 at Rhodes College. Game time is slated for 5 p.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
