Justin LeBlanc Earns 150th Career Coaching Win on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's basketball team secured a blowout victory over Sewanee, 78-58 inside the Hangar Dome on Saturday.

The Majors avenged last week's defeat and led by as many as 40 points before rotating through the bench in the fourth quarter.

Head coach Justin Leblanc secured his 150th career coaching victory in the contest and 141st helming the Majors.

Sophomore Garin Freeman led the Majors in scoring with 16 points, while shooting 4-of-5 from the floor and 8-of-9 at the charity stripe.

The guard tied a career-high with five steals, while accumulating six assists and one rebound.

Junior Elyse Warren posted 13 points, five rebounds and one steal. The Memphis, Tenn., product also shot 6-of-7 from field goal range.

Sophomore Tia Anderson recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and an assist against the Tigers.

Senior Emily Adams posted eight points, two assists and three rebounds. Classmate Whitney Novak had a solid performance of seven points, two steals and one assist. Novak also shot 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Millsaps (17-3, 6-1 SAA) took down Sewanee (10-11, 3-5 SAA), 16-8 in fast break points. The Tigers led 9-6 in second chance points, while the Majors dominated their opponents 41-20 in bench points.

The Majors held the Tigers to a 32-24 margin in points off turnovers and outscored the visitors, 38-22 in the paint.

Sewanee was held to 23 percent shooting (9-of-40) for the first three quarters and trailed, 63-30.

In the first quarter, Freeman's driving layup to the rim gave the Majors their first pair of points after the Little Rock, Ark., native stole the ball on defense.

With 4:50 remaining in the opening quarter, Novak's three-pointer moved the Majors ahead, 7-3.

An Adams trey extended the Majors' lead by 13 points prior to Warren swiping the ball from her foe's hand.

Freeman made a free throw to help close out the first quarter with Majors leading, 20-7.

Millsaps held the Tigers to 14.3 percent (1-of-7) from three-point range and 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from the floor.

In the second quarter, Sewanee continued to struggle to find points as the Majors took a 21-6 scoring advantage.

Adams' high-quality shooting from long distance increased the Majors advantage by 22 points with 2:43 to go.

An Anderson layup assisted by Freeman bettered the Majors, 41-13 to close out the first half.

In the third quarter, Millsaps continued to tame the Tigers in scoring as Adams made a pair of free throws that stretched the Majors lead by 31 points with 4:58 to go.

A Warren driving layup soon gave the Majors their largest lead of the contest by 40 points.

Anderson ended the Millsaps strong stretch with a jumper as the Majors comfortably led, 63-30 entering the final quarter.

Leading by 30 points in the fourth quarter, sophomore Mya Richardson sank a three-pointer off the bench courtesy of a freshman Molly Northam pass.

With 1:13 minutes remaining until the end of the contest, freshman Ashlyn Hafley (season-high three steals) stepped on the court for a steal and driving layup to push the Majors' tempo to 76-58.

Northam's jumper helped the Majors finish the quarter strong as the Majors took down the Tigers, 78-58 in a strong response on Saturday inside the Hangar Dome.
