JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball program opened the 2025 season in emphatic fashion by downing MUW, 14-1 at Twenty Field on Monday.
It was the largest Opening Day victory since a 16-2 decision over University of the Ozarks in 2010.
Numerous Majors shined offensively on Monday as the team totaled 14 hits.
Senior
Evan Scott (2-for-4) tallied a three-run homer with four runs scored, a double and two walks.
Junior
EJ Ousley had a 3-for-4 day with five RBIs, a double, triple and walked. Senior
Bradley Pelle (2-for-4) was solid with two runs, an RBI, double, stolen base and two walks.
Graduate
Case Page added a pair of hits, while classmate
Branyan Bounds and senior
Gray Berry each scored three runs.
Millsaps threw six pitchers who combined for 11 strikeouts. Each pitcher struck out at least one Owl hitter and only surrendered five total hits.
Sixth year
Wil Wood (2.0 IP) struck out five hitters and senior
Nick Tarantino fanned two Owls in one flawless inning of work.
The Majors jumped ahead of the Owls early in the first inning when Scott crushed a ball over the left field fence for a three-run shot.
MUW answered with a run in the top of the second before Ousley doubled home Berry and Scott scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the third.
Pelle made it 6-1 in the fourth when his double brought Bounds around all the way from first base.
Scott then led off the fifth with a walk and scored after an electric Ousley triple rolled to the right field wall.
The sixth inning saw the Majors build a 9-1 cushion when graduate
David Abbadessa (two RBIs, walk) singled home Ware and Ousley allowed Bounds to touch home plate on a bases-loaded walk.
Millsaps completed the scoring with a five-run seventh inning. An Abbadessa fielder's choice scored junior
Mason Morgan before Bounds later scored from third on a passed ball.
Ousley followed suit by clearing the bases with a single and error by the MUW center fielder, scoring three runners and making it 14-1.
The Majors will next host Edgewood College for a three-game series. A junior varsity game is currently scheduled for Thursday with Millsaps back in action, Friday through Sunday.
