JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps College Director of Athletics
Justin LeBlanc has announced and accepted the resignation of Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving head coach
Brian Ware.
A national search for the next Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving head coach will begin immediately.
Ware was the programs' first and only coach, instrumental in building each from the ground up. He helmed the Majors the previous six seasons after being hired in July of 2018. Ware oversaw all facets of building the new programs, including recruiting student-athletes and other administrative duties.
"Brian's commitment to our student-athletes over the past six years has left a lasting impact, and we are incredibly grateful for all he has done for our department and the college," said LeBlanc. "I can't thank Brian enough for his time and efforts, and we all wish him all the best in his next chapter."
He coached NCAA Division III All-American
Bryan Sullivan of Jackson, Miss., three All-Conference finishers and several CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams. Ware also guided Sullivan to two Southern Athletic Association Men's Swimmer of the Year recognitions along with several other plaudits.
Prior to arriving at Millsaps, Ware led the decorated Mississippi Makos swim team since 1991. While there, Ware's teams won several state championships, produced qualifiers for Olympic Trials, Senior National, and Junior National, as well as numerous individual state record holders and state champions.
He also started the swim team at Clinton High School and was named the MHSAA Boys High School Coach of the Year in 1999. In 2007, Ware took over the duties as coach at Madison Central High School. While leading the Jaguars he was named the Mississippi Association of Coaches Swim Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2017. He won the MHSAA Coach of the Year award in 2015. His women's team won the Class 2 title for four consecutive seasons and his men's team finished runner up for the Class 2 title twice.
