JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's basketball team earned the right to host the 2025 Southern Athletic Association Women's Basketball Championship after defeating Hendrix, 78-68 inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday.
Millsaps holds the tiebreakers for the top seed and earns at least a share of the SAA Regular-Season title. The Majors will only need one win over the final two games for the outright title.
Millsaps secures a first round bye and hosts the SAA Semifinals and Championship, Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1.
The Millsaps (20-3, 9-1 SAA) bench outscored Hendrix (8-15, 1-9 SAA) by a 48-20 margin. The Majors also forced 17 turnovers and controlled the points in the paint, 40-26.
Sophomore Tia Anderson netted a career-high 21 points and tied a career-best nine rebounds. She added a block, assist and steal.
Junior Elyse Warren protected home court with 17 points, seven rebounds and a steal.
Sophomore Garin Freeman was an all-around force with 14 points, six assists, three steals and two rebounds.
Junior Lexus Keyes scored 10 points, added a career-best five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Hendrix earned an early 8-5 lead before the Majors came alive in the first quarter, closing on a 14-2.
A fastbreak layup by Franklin gave Millsops a 26-13 lead, forcing a Warrior timeout early in the second quarter.
Hendrix closed the deficit to seven points before Anderson sank a trey and Franklin connected on another layup before halftime. The Majors led, 39-27 at the break.
The visitors again battled back to close the deficit to six points before Millsaps responded with a 12-0 run midway through the third quarter.
With 4:22 remaining, Hendrix made it a 67-57 deficit, but Freeman answered with a layup and senior Emily Adams put the game away with a three-pointer. Millsaps held strong for a 78-68 triumph in its regular-season home finale.
The Majors next travel to Georgia for two final regular season games, beginning at Oglethorpe in Atlanta on Friday. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. CT with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
