JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team excelled with a 10-4 triumph over No. 14 nationally ranked Centre College at Twenty Field on Monday.
After defeating Centre 5-4 on Sunday, it was the first time the Majors claimed a series victory against a ranked foe since March 2020.
Freshman
John Montour earned the win with 5.0 innings pitched, holding the Colonels to one earned run, three hits and no walks. He struck out two batters.
Junior
Stewart Bonnecaze tossed five strikeouts in 3.0 IP with three runs against, while classmate
Will Norris closed out the game with a flawless ninth.
Graduate
Jackson Ware (2-for-2) tallied a two-run homer, three RBIs, scored three runs, walked and was hit by a pitch.
Senior
Bradley Pelle batted 3-for-4 with a double and a walk. Classmate
Gray Berry (2-for-5, two RBIs) and graduate
Branyan Bounds (2-for-4, two RBIs, two runs, two doubles, hit by pitch) each recorded two hits.
Centre (13-3, 4-2 SAA) opened the game with a run in the top of the first and second innings.
Millsaps (13-5, 2-1 SAA) soon answered in its half of the second inning. With runners on second and third, Berry singled home Ware and Bounds to tie the game at 2-2.
The Colonels regained a 3-2 lead in the third with a hit by pitch, double and wild pitch.
Undaunted, the Majors stormed back with three runs in the bottom of the third. Bounds evented the game with a double, bring Page home. Graduate
David Abbadessa then doubled around teammates Ware and Bounds.
Ware then stepped into the batter's box and sailed a two-run homer to right center, giving Millsaps a 7-3 advantage in the fifth.
The visitors cut the deficit to 7-4 before the Majors responded with three more runs in the eighth frame.
Morgan singled home freshman pinch runner
Charles Hunt and Sunday's walk-off hero to begin the scoring barrage. Ware followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Page and Bounds doubled to allow Morgan to touch the plate.
Norris finished the job with two ground outs and a fly out to helps the Majors secure the 10-4 triumph.
