Baseball Falls to RPI on Thursday

Wes Carr Records First Collegiate Home Run as Engineers Better Majors, 11-6

JACKSON, Miss.  The Millsaps baseball team gave their all but was defeated by RPI, 11-6 at Twenty Field on Thursday. 
 
Graduate Case Page batted 3-for-4 while registering one run. Classmate David Abbadessa finished 2-for-4, adding two RBIs. 
 
Freshman Wes Carr recorded his first collegiate homer, a three-run shot in the ninth inning. 
 
Redshirt junior Will Norris finished with a double, while graduate Jackson Ware (run, RBI), junior EJ Ousley (walk, run, hit by pitch) and senior Bradley Pelle (run) each completed the afternoon with a hit. 
 
Junior Co-Lin Community College transfer Sam Thomas pitched three innings on the mound, surrendering zero hits and no runs with two walks against. 
 
Classmate Stewart Bonnecaze saw one inning pitched on the mound. The Baton Rouge, La., native strucked out two batters while only allowing one run and two hits. 
 
RPI took an early 3-0 lead after scoring first in the first inning and twice more in the second frame. 
 
In the bottom of the second, Millsaps answered back as Ware reached first base on a fielder's choice as Ousley scored from third. 
 
A single down the left-field line by Abbadessa sent Page home, shortening the deficit down to 3-2 in the fourth. 
 
Millsaps saw a 3-3 tie after Abbadessa's hot stretch continued. He singled to right field to bring Ware safely to home plate. 
 
In the top of the seventh inning, RPI responded with five hits and a quintet of runs to claim their lead back at 8-3. 
 
RPI topped the Majors in the top of the eighth inning with another run scored. The Engineers homered in the top of the ninth inning, making it 11-3. 
 
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Carr claimed his for the Majors to send Pelle and junior Layne Cross home with a three-run homer to left field. 
 
The Engineers maintained their lead from there to take down the Majors, 11-6 on Thursday. 
 
Millsaps will be back in action to face MUW on the road in Montgomery, Ala., beginning at 12 p.m. on Friday. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
