Tennis Bested in Close Matches with Asbury

Men Fall 4-3, Women Bettered 5-2 on Friday

JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps men's and women's tennis hosted Asbury University and were defeated in close matches at the Coach Montgomery Courts on Friday.
 
The men lost a heartbreaker, 4-3 and the women were tough in a 5-2 loss.

The Majors will now head to Orlando to compete in Spring Break Tennis against five opponents, Sunday through Wednesday.

Men's Recap vs. Asbury University, 4-3, L

Senior Anderson Dulaney teamed up with junior Sam Tuli dominated on Court 1 doubles. The pair didn't drop a single game, claiming a 6-0 decision.

 
However, Asbury clinched the doubles point with a similar score on Court 3. Seniors Carson Chassaignac and Brady St. Martin were narrowly bested, 7-5 on decisive Court 2.

The Majors then swept victories on Courts 1, 2 and 3 in singles. Tuli claimed a thrilling 10-8 tiebreaker in the third set on Court 1. Chassaignac made quick work on Court 2 (6-3, 6-1) and Dulaney earned a tough 6-4, 7-6 triumph. He won the second set with a 7-5 tiebreaker.

However, Asbury claimed winners on Court 4, 5 and 6 to earn the overall victory on Friday.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in doubles with wins on each court. Freshmen Malakie Smith and Skylar Spinks had the closest defeat, falling 6-4 on Court 3.

 
Spinks was victorious on Court 4 singles, battling back to claim set two, 6-4 and won a 10-6 tiebreaker in the decisive third set.

Classmate Riley McClain dominated on Court 6, winning 6-1, 6-0. Asbury claimed wins on the remaining four courts.

Senior Segen Lister had the closest defeat, battling 7-6, 7-5 on Court 3.
