Millsaps Tennis Collects Four Victories at Spring Break Tennis

Majors Complete Four Days of Competition in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Millsaps men's and women's tennis programs competed hard and earned four team victories at the Spring Break Tennis annual competition hosted at the USTA National Tennis Center, Sunday through Wednesday. 
 
The women's team defeated Roger Williams University, University of Northwestern – St. Paul and Covenant College before falling to Piedmont University and Connecticut College. 
 
On the men's side, the Majors competed against the same five schools and bettered University of Northwestern – St. Paul and fell in close matches to their other opponents. 
 
Millsaps will next host Belhaven University on Saturday, March 22 and Senior Day with Southwest Community College on Sunday, March 23. 
 
 
Women's Recap vs. Roger Williams University: 6-1, W 
 
The Millsaps women's tennis team opened the week with an emphatic win over Roger Williams University. 
 
Seniors Mary Dabadie and Mackenzie Vordick teamed up to better their opponents, 6-3 on Court One doubles. 
 
Freshmen Malakie Smith and Skylar Spinks came together to take down their foes, 6-1 on Court Three and clinch the doubles point.

In singles, the Majors dominated with wins on five of six courts. Dabadie downed her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 to start the Majors off strong on Court One.

Vordick stood her ground on Court Two but was bested by her opponent, 7-6 (7-5) and 6-2 after going into a first set tiebreaker.

Freshman Riley McClain saw a 6-2, 6-3 victory after beating her opponent in both sets on Court Three.

On Court Four, junior Alexis Oliver took down her challenger, 6-2, 6-3. On Court Five Segen Lister and her opponent exchanged points in set one and set two before the senior won the tiebreaker, 10-8 in set three.

On Court Six, Spinks surpassed her opposer, 6-2, 6-1 to close the final matchup for the women on Sunday.

Men's Recap vs. Roger Williams University: 4-3, L 
 
The men opened their stay in Florida by claiming the doubles point on Sunday. Senior Anderson Dulaney and junior Sam Tuli both took down their opponent following a 6-3 triumph on Court One. 
 
After a strong start by the Majors on, seniors Carson Chassaignac and Brady St. Martin worked to better their contestants 6-3 on Court Two to keep the momentum going.

However in singles, Roger Williams battled back with four victories. Tuli gave his all but was challenged by his Court One opponent. He fell behind, 6-3 and 7-6 (11-9) in a tiebreaker in the second set.

After winning his matchup in doubles, Chassaignac continued to put up wins by securing a 6-0, 6-3 triumph against his opposer on Court Two.

Dulaney took the final win for the Majors on Court Three by beating his opponent, 6-1, 7-5 in both sets.

St. Martin was defeated 6-1 in the first set on Court Five. He fought back in a competitive matchup in the second set, but his opponent won by a narrow 7-5 margin.

Women's Recap vs. University of Northwestern – St. Paul: 7-0, W

After downing Rodger Williams, 6-1 on Sunday, Millsaps continued to shut down their opponents with an impressive, 7-0 victory over the University of Northwestern – St. Paul on Monday. 
 
In doubles and singles the Majors' teamwork secured wins across every court against the Eagles. On Court One, Dabadie and Vordick soared passed their opponents following a 6-1 win. 
 
On Court Two, McClain and Oliver both defeated their Eagle challengers 7-6 (7-5) after an intense tiebreaker. 
 
Smith and Spinks gave the Majors their final triumph against the UNW in doubles on Court Three following a 6-2 win. 
 
After a strong finish by the Majors in doubles, Millsaps continued to bring their A-game, as Dabadie breezed past her opposer 6-0, 6-0 in both sets on Court One. 
 
Vordick one-upped her foe, 6-4, 6-2 on Court Two after McClain took care of business on Court Three with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. 
 
Oliver continued to perform well for the Majors on Court Four where she disrupted her opponent, 6-2, 6-2 in both sets. 
 
Lister sailed past her opponent, 6-1, 6-0 on Court Five while, Spinks put forth another strong performance (6-1, 6-4) on Court Six.

After a close 4-3 defeat, the men's squad took care of University of Northwestern – St. Paul as well. 
 
Freshman Sebastian Gonzalez and senior Sam Willard cruised to a 6-1 decision on Court 3. Dulaney and Tuli then clinched the doubles point with a thrilling 7-6 (6-2) battle in a tiebreak on Court One. 
 
The Majors then secured winners on Courts One through Five in singles. Tuli overcame his foe on Court One with a 7-5 tiebreaker in set one and closed with a 6-4 decision in set two. 
 
Chassaignac (6-1, 6-1), Dulaney (6-3, 6-0), Willard (6-3, 6-4) and St. Martin (6-2, 6-3) excelled on Courts Two, Three, Four and Five, respectively.

Women's Recap vs. Covenant College: 7-0, W
 
The women's program then opened with the first of two matches on Tuesday, claiming a stellar 7-0 decision over Covenant College. 
 
Millsaps again swept through doubles. Dabadie and Vordick as well as Smith and Spinks bested their doubles challengers 6-2 on Courts One and Three, respectively. McClain alongside Oliver were terrific securing a 6-1 triumph. 
 
For the second match in a row, the Majors didn't lose across all the singles courts as well. Both Oliver and Spinks did not drop a single game, claiming 6-0, 6-0 winners on Courts Four and Six, respectively. 
 
McClain impressed as well with a near-perfect match on Court Three (6-0, 6-1). Additionally, Vordick and Lister garnered identical 6-1, 6-2 wins on Courts Two and Five. 
 
The final win was earned by Dabadie on Court One, where she handled her opponent, 6-3, 6-2.

Men's Recap vs. Covenant College: 7-0, L
 
After securing a 6-1 win over the University of Northwestern – St. Paul to continue the week, Millsaps fell to Covenant, 7-0 on Tuesday morning following a hard-fought battle.

In doubles, Chassaignac and Brady St. Martin were bettered 6-4 on Court Two.

Gonzalez and Willard came together on Court Three but were also stopped 6-4 in a close matchup against their Scot opponents.

The Scots were tough in singles and claimed wins from top to bottom. Chassaignac was the closest Major challenger. He battled hard in the second set, but his opponent pulled away, 6-4 to win on Court Two.

Women's Recap vs. Piedmont University: 5-2, L
 
The women's squad entered the second contest on Tuesday with a three-match winning streak. However, Piedmont University was victorious, 5-2 to end the day. 
 
Dabadie and Vordick was strong again, earning a 7-5 win on Court One doubles. The Lions toughed up on Court Two (6-3) and Court Three (6-0) to take an early 1-0 match lead. 
 
McClain triumphed on Court Three singles with a 6-4, 6-4 decision. Smith also was a winner after she survived and tied the match up with a 7-5 win. She then won a thriller 14-12 tiebreaker in the third a decisive set. 
 
Piedmont though claimed the match with victories on the remaining courts. Dabadie battled the closest on Court One, where she was bettered, 7-5, 6-2. 
 
Both Vordick and Spinks challenged their Lion foes to 6-3, 6-4 decisions on Court Two and Five, respectively.

The men closed Tuesday with a tough 5-2 defeat to Piedmont as well. 
 
In doubles, Dulaney and Tuli topped their opponents, 6-4 on Court Two. Chassaignac and St. Martin though fell, 6-4 after giving their best on Court Two. Piedmont took down the Majors as well on Court Three to close out the paired matchups. 
 
In singles, Tuli beat his opponent 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-8) after two thrilling tiebreakers on Court Three. 
 
Chassaignac set up strong on Court Two, giving the Majors another point by beating his opponent 7-5 and 6-2 in both sets. 
 
Dulaney nearly triumphed on Court One but was bettered 13-11 in set three.

Women's Recap vs. Connecticut College: 7-0, L 
 
The final match of the week pitted the Majors against the Connecticut College Camels on Wednesday. 
 
Doubles featured action on two courts and singles saw competition on five courts due to injuries. 
 
The Camels secured identical 6-1 decisions on Courts One and Two to clinch the doubles point. 
 
Connecticut College also won on Courts One through Five and secured a seventh point with a forfeit on Court Six. 
 
In singles, Spinks was the nearest Major challenger, falling 6-3, 6-4 on Court Four. Smith gave her best before falling, 6-1, 6-4 on Court Five.

The men's team looked to finish the final matchup of the week strong, but were bettered by the Camels, 7-0 on Wednesday. 
 
The Majors put up a team effort in doubles as Dulaney and Tuli won in a close matchup against their opponents, 7-5 on Court One. 
 
Chassaignac and St. Martin joined together on Court Two, but their opponent would secure a 6-3 triumph. 
 
Gonzalez and Willard teamed up in the doubles as well, with the Camels securing a 7-5 decision to garner the doubles point after a strong performance by both sides. 
 
Giving his all in singles, Dulaney was downed, 6-3, 6-4 against his competition on Court One. Willard competing at his best fell short, 6-4 in the first set before his opponent would won the second set, 6-0 on Court Three. 
 
On Court Two, Tuli also pushed his Connecticut College foe to the brink but fell, 7-5, 6-2.
