JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team (28-12) hosted MUW for one final regular-season contest, but was bested 13-8 at Twenty Field on Tuesday.
Senior
Bradley Pelle (2-for-2) had a terrific game with his 13th homer of the season, two RBIs, two runs, two walks, two hit by pitches and stole three bases.
Junior
Mason Morgan batted 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
Graduates
Case Page (RBI, run, two walks) and
David Abbadessa (RBI) both went 2-for-4.
In the top of the first inning, MUW (18-14) took an early 2-0 lead after a triple and a single put the Owls ahead.
However, in the bottom of the first inning, the Majors countered the Owls' threat as Pelle blasted a two-run homer to right center to tie the contest at 2-2.
MUW utilized a sacrifice fly to send a runner home and reclaim their lead by one run in the second.
The Owls continued their team momentum in the third with a solo lead-off homer increase their scoring advantage to 4-2.
Millsaps continued to respond as an Abbadessa single to right field helped score junior EJ Ousley in the fourth.
Answering quickly at the top of the fifth, MUW connected on their second homer of the evening to further their margin to 5-3.
Not giving up, Millsaps would come back again in the bottom of the fifth inning as Ousley scored Page on a ground out. Page later came home on a wild pitch to even the contest at 5-5.
Held scoreless until the top of the seventh inning, MUW proceeded with three runs off two hits and two walks to take back their lead at 8-5.
In the top of the eighth inning, MUW topped the Majors with an RBI single and a two-run homer to obtain an 11-5 advantage.
MUW would score on two wild pitches to top the Majors, 13-5 in the ninth.
Freshman Carston Williams entered into the contest as a pinch hitter and cracked a two-run homer to shorten the Majors' deficit to 13-7.
Moments later, Millsaps attempted to keep their hopes alive as Pelle and Page singled to help send Berry home to make it 13-8.
MUW would hold onto their lead to best the Majors on Tuesday.
