Tennis Falls in Conference Home Finales to Centre

Women Bested 4-0, Men Battle to 6-1 Defeat on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's and women's tennis programs battled tough in their Southern Athletic Association regular-season finales but fell to Centre College at the Coach Montgomery Courts on Saturday. The women were bettered 4-0, while the men lost 6-1. 

Millsaps next travels to Hendrix and will face off at 9 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12.


Women's Recap vs. Centre 4-0, L 
 
The women's tennis team gave their all in both singles and doubles against Centre College on Saturday. 
 
On Court Two, freshman Riley McClain and junior Alexis Oliver bested their opponents, 7-6, which included a thrilling 7-5 tiebreaker. 
 
The Colonels claimed the doubles point with a 6-2 decision on Court Two and 6-3 win on Court Three. 
 
In singles, senior Mary Dabadie topped her opponent, 6-3 in the first set on Court One. The Baton Rouge, La., native was bettered 7-4 in a second-set tiebreaker. A decisive third set was not played as the match was clinched by the Colonels prior. 
 
McClain won the first set on Court Three, 7-5. The second set finished at 3-3 when the match concluded. 
 
Oliver fought tremendously on Court 4, battling back with a 6-2 win in the second set. Centre however claimed the third-set tiebreak, 10-7.

Men's Recap vs Centre, 6-1, L

The Colonels claimed a 6-1 decision on the men's side. Seniors Carson Chassaignac and Brady St. Martin were victorious though with a strong 6-3 showing on Court Two doubles. 
 
Centre won on Court Three and secured the doubles point when senior Anderson Dulaney and junior Sam Tuli were stopped in a 7-5 fight. 
 
Tuli continued to show resolve by claiming a back-and-forth contest on Court Three singles. He took set one, 7-5 and narrowly lost set two in a 7-5 tiebreaker. The Ocean Springs, Miss., product dug deep and won a 10-8 tiebreaker in the decisive third set to give Millsaps the point.

Dulaney put up another solid effort and took set one, 6-2 on Court One. The match was tied after a 6-4 win by his challenger. Ultimately, Centre claimed the point in a hard-fought, 10-8 tiebreaker in set three. 
 
St. Martin also showed grit in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat on Court 5.
