Major Seven Named to CSC Academic All-District® Basketball Teams

Anderson, Freeman, Novak, Warren, Gorton, Roth, Ughovwa Earned Recognition

AUSTIN, Texas – The 2024-25 CSC Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams announced by the College Sports Communicators recognized seven members of the Millsaps men's and women's basketball programs on Tuesday, March 25.

On the women's team, sophomores Tia Anderson and Garin Freeman both made the list for the first time academically, while junior Elyse Warren and senior Whitney Novak both were honored for the second time.

On the men's side, seniors Drew Roth and Nicholas Ughovwa both made the list for the second time, while junior Mack Gorton was honored as well.

The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

Additionally, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's total contests during the fall campaign.

They must also be sophomores or further along in their academic careers.

Anderson has been named to the CSC Academic All-District® Basketball Team for the first time in her collegiate career.

The 2024-25 All-SAA Honorable Mention student-athlete appeared in all 27 games while making one start.

The Brusly, La., native completed her sophomore campaign averaging 9.2 ppg while recording 14 assists and 28 steals. She finished third on the team with 131 rebounds.

Anderson is pursuing a degree in psychology with a minor in health and exercise science. The forward was also a member of the 2024 Spring SAA Academic Honor Roll.

She also achieved a spot on Club 40 with a perfect 4.0 GPA and made the President's List during the spring of 2024.

Anderson holds a 3.95 GPA, serves as a presidential ambassador while being involved with the Black Girls Project.

Freeman was named to the list as well after being named the 2024-25 SAA Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year.

The 2024 Millsaps Female Newcomer of the Year led the conference and was ranked 12th in Dlll with 136 assists. Freeman assists stand third in program history in a single season.

Freeman's 61 steals on the season were the highest in the conference and eighth in Millsaps women's basketball program history as well.

The Little Rock, Ark., product also averaged 13.9 points per game and shot 20-for-22 from the free-throw line in a win at Centenary College on Dec. 13.

The All-SAA First Team standout's 20 made free throws are a single-game high across NCAA Division III. In the classroom, she holds a 3.91 cumulative GPA and is double majoring in biology and health and exercise science.

Novak, another phenomenal athlete, appeared in all 27 games while making 26 starts. The forward finished the 2024-25 season with 87 rebounds, 19 assists, 19 steals and two blocks.

Double majoring in applied mathematics and business administration, Novak holds a 3.65 GPA.

After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school for engineering. On campus, Novak serves as the secretary and treasurer of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is also the treasurer of Chi Omega.

Warren, named to the CSC Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team for the second time, helped the Majors to a 22-5 overall record and a 10-2 finish in the conference.

The Memphis, Tenn., forward garnered All-SAA Second Team status while appearing in all 27 games for the Majors. Warren finished the season averaging 10.8 point per game.

Warren ranked first in the conference and 41st in the NCAA Division III standings with 271 rebounds. She finished her junior campaign with 12 double-doubles.

A three-time member of Club 40, Warren is currently majoring in neuroscience and holds an impressive 3.91 GPA.

On the men's side, Gorton appeared in 25 of 26 games for the Majors during the 2024-25 season, contesting 69 rebounds off the glass, adding six blocks and seven steals.

The Belzoni, Miss., native shot 41-for-81 from field goal range and finished his junior campaign with nine assists. On Feb. 8, he helped the Majors defeat Rhodes, 82-64 with nine points and seven rebounds.

Gorton is an accounting major and holds a 3.56 GPA. Focusing on his studies, Gorton is currently a two-time member of the Spring SAA Academic Honor Roll. He has also made the Dean's and President's Lists.

On campus, Gorton is associated with the Millsaps Christian Fellowship, Millsaps Christian Collective, Student Body Association, Chess Club and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

Roth started all 26 games for the Majors, finishing second on the team with 17 blocks and third with 139 rebounds.

The Monterey, Calif., native also averaged 8.9 points per game. Roth finished the 2024-25 season with 18 assists and 16 steals.

Roth, now a two-time member of the CSC Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team, is currently double majoring in applied mathematics and economics, holding a 3.88 GPA.

The forward has made the Dean's and President's Lists as well.

Roth's hard work in the classroom was recognized as part of the Spring SAA Academic Honor Roll three times.

On campus, Roth is associated with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has done play-by-play and commentary of games for the Millsaps Sports Network.

Ughowva was named SAA Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year, while starting in all 26 games for the Majors. He led the conference with 49 blocks, ranking 35th across the NCAA Division III. His 1.85 blocks per game are currently 39th nationally as well.

The Sulphur, La., native averaged 8.4 points per game and ranked 10th in the league with 150 rebounds (5.5 rpg).

A defensive post player who contested 25 steals and 18 assists, on Feb. 1 Ughovwa set a career-high with 23 points against Sewanee.

Majoring in government and politics, Ughovwa holds a 3.55 GPA. He has shadowed under attorney Adam Johnson for the past three years at the Johnson Firm.

A finalist for the Cynthia Bingham Award Junior Scholar of Distinction, Ughovwa has made the Dean's List multiple times.

On campus, Ughovwa is affiliated with the chess club, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., and the Government and Politics Club.

After graduation, he plans to attend law school to further his education.

Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-April.
