McKeithen, Lawless Goals Lead Majors Past Hawks, 2-1 on Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. — Millsaps men's soccer stormed past Huntingdon College in a 2-1 triumph on Tuesday at Harper Davis Field.

Millsaps (3-0-2) opened the scoring early and maintained pressure throughout, outshooting the Hawks 14-2. Despite a late goal from Huntingdon (1-3-2), the Majors secured the win with solid defensive play and a game-winning goal in the second half.

Sophomore Drew Mckeithen scored a goal and registered two shots, including one shot on target. Classmate Ellis Dykes contributed an assist and led the team with six shots, three of which were on frame.

Freshman Abram Lawless recorded a goal and an assist, with his goal being the game-winner. Senior Michael Hamauei played the entire match in goal, facing two shots and allowing one goal while earning the win.

The first half began with Millsaps taking an early lead in the fifth minute, as Mckeithen capitalized on an assist from Lawless to put the home team ahead 1-0. Despite facing multiple fouls throughout the half, the Majors maintained their defensive composure, with Hamauei remaining untested in terms of goals conceded.

Sophomore Harrison Williams and Dykes both pressured the Hawks' defense with shots on target, but Huntingdon's goalkeeper, managed to keep the scoreline unchanged as the half concluded with Millsaps holding a narrow 1-0 advantage.

The second half began with the Majors capitalizing on an early opportunity as Lawless scored in the 58th minute, assisted by Dykes, extending the lead to 2-0.

The Majors maintained their advantage until the 82nd minute when Huntingdon reduced their deficit to 2-1. Dykes continued to be active offensively, recording another shot attempt and the Majors held firm defensively to secure the victory and remain undefeated.

The Majors will remain at home to host Lyon College for Senior Day on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
