Majors Perform Well at Magnolia Invite, Rhodes over the Weekend

CLEVELAND, Miss. & MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps Majors men's and women's swim teams recently competed in two exciting meets, the Magnolia Invite on Friday and a duel meet at Rhodes College on Saturday. Both events showcased strong individual performances from key swimmers, highlighting the Majors' competitive spirit across multiple events.

On Friday at the Magnolia Invite, held in a yard-course format, Millsaps swimmers shined. Junior Payton Jones secured a solid fourth place in the men's 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:25.28, placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.08) and was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (59.77).

Senior Kaiden Auzenne earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.85) and the 50-yard freestyle (24.40 seconds), as well as strong showings in the 100-yard freestyle (8th place, 55.24 seconds).

Classmate Jackson Van Meter added depth in the freestyle events, placing fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.00), and taking ninth places in the 50-yard (25.12) and 100-yard (56.82) freestyle events, respectively.

On the women's side, sophomore Chloe Barnard represented Millsaps well with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.33) and a close fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle (30.16 seconds). Her contributions added important points to the overall team efforts.

On Saturday at the Rhodes College dual meet, the men's team had notable results in short course meter events. Auzenne led the way with several top finishes, including a third-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke (1:16.16), just ahead of Jones, who placed fourth in the same event with a time of 1:18.39.

Kaiden also secured fourth place in the 50-meter freestyle (27.64 seconds) and the 50-meter backstroke (36.78 seconds), while Van Meter finished closely behind in fifth place in the 50-meter freestyle (28.80). Jackson further contributed with a fifth-place finish in the 50-meter butterfly (30.80 seconds) and fourth place in the 100-meter freestyle (1:03.57).

Jones also showed his endurance in the longer distance events, earning a strong third-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:17.64 and fifth in the 200-meter individual medley (2:51.12). These performances at Rhodes demonstrated the men's team's versatility, with competitive times across sprint, middle-distance and endurance events.

The Majors will return to meet competition with a tri-meet against Centre College and Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga. on Friday, Oct. 10.
