Men's Soccer Continues Best Start in Program History By Downing Tougaloo

Majors Record Most Goals Since 2014 in 8-1 Triumph

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps men's soccer team dominated Tougaloo College with an 8-1 victory at Harper Davis Field on Wednesday. Millsaps improved upon its best start in program history, remaining undefeated in seven matches to start the season (5-0-2).

The Majors opened the match with a commanding performance, taking a 6-0 lead by halftime.

Millsaps recorded 22 shots on goal, showcasing a relentless offensive effort. Tougaloo (0-1-0) managed one goal in the second half but could not overcome the Majors' fast tempo. The eight goals were the most by a Major squad since the 2014 season.

Freshman Raul Blandon scored one goal to top the Bulldogs, while sophomore Nicholas Theriot added two goals and one assist, leading the team with five shots on goal.

Junior Ethan Pratt contributed a goal and classmate Braden Walters also found the back of the net with his only shot on goal.

Freshman Daniel Lee scored once, completing the game with two shot attempts.

Sophomore Harrison Williams (one shot on goal) and classmate Alden Romano (two shots, one shot on goal) both scored a goal against the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Ellis Dykes (four shots, three shots on goal), classmate Hayden Fisher, freshman Trinden Holliday and senior Hogan Payne added an assist each.

Freshman Edward Steinwand saw his first collegiate start as a goalkeeper, where he faced two shots and surrendered zero goals in the first half.

In the first half, Millsaps taking early control of the match. The Majors broke through with Walters opening the scoring in the eighth minute. 

This was quickly followed by goals from Blandon and Lee, extending the lead to 3-0 within the first 13 minutes.

Millsaps maintained pressure with consistent offensive efforts, resulting in a fourth goal by Williams, assisted by Dykes. 

Theriot added another goal in the 37th minute, with an assist from Payne, pushing the score to 5-0.

Romano capped the period with a goal assisted by Fisher, leaving the Majors with a commanding 6-0 lead at halftime.

The second half began with Millsaps maintaining their offensive momentum.

Millsaps soon capitalized in the 58th minute with another goal by Theriot, assisted by Holliday, extending the lead to 7-0.

Tougaloo attempted to respond, managing a goal in the 86th minute, reducing the deficit.

However, Millsaps quickly countered with a goal from Pratt, assisted by Theriot, in the final minute. The period concluded with the Majors sealing a decisive victory.

The Majors will next travel to LaGrange College and face the Panthers on Sunday, beginning at 12 p.m. CT. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
