Sewanee’s Long-Range, Free-Throw Success Betters Men’s Basketball, 84-62
Trio of Majors Score Double Digits in Defeat on Sunday

SEWANEE, Tenn. — The Millsaps College men's basketball team fell to Sewanee, 84-62 on Sunday at Juhan Gymnasium.
Millsaps (10-4, 1-2 SAA) managed to score 34 points in the paint and added 36 bench points, but Sewanee's superior free-throw shooting, going 29-of-32 from the line, proved decisive. The game featured five ties and six lead changes before Sewanee (5-8, 2-1 SAA) pulled away in the second half. The Tigers also connected on 36 percent of long-range attempts (9-of-25).
Senior
Caleb Kent scored 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting while recording two rebounds.
Junior
Davion James recorded five points, three steals and four assists, contributing defensively and facilitating play.
Senior
Dakota Gasca made 7-of-8 free throws and also tied for the team's scoring lead with a season-best 12 points.
Junior
David Combest Jr. collected a season-best 14 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. He added three assists.
Millsaps initiated play with a strong start, quickly establishing a 9-2 lead at the 15:13 mark, highlighted by junior
Colt Donley's fastbreak dunk.
Their advantage was bolstered by Kent's layup and junior
Rodney Phillips Jr.'s pair of free throws. However, the Tigers responded by tying the game at 18 midway through the half.
Millsaps briefly regained the lead at 27-25 on a jumper by Kent with 3:16 remaining. In face of their efforts, the Majors were unable to maintain the advantage, and the half concluded with Sewanee leading 34-27.
Millsaps made a solid push to open the second half with a fast-break layup by junior
Jaxon Toney just 34 seconds in.
Kent managed to cut into Sewanee's lead with a layup at 15:35, followed by a fast-break layup from junior
Cameron Lumar, narrowing the gap to nine points.
Following the Majors' effort, Sewanee capitalized on free throws and treys to extend their lead throughout the half.
Millsaps was unable to keep up offensively down the stretch as the game concluded with Sewanee ahead, 84-62.
