Elyse Warren Becomes First Player in School History to Reach 1000-Point, 1000-Rebound Summit

JACKSON, Miss. — The Milsaps women's basketball team tamed Rhodes College, 83-62 inside the Hangar Dome on Friday. The Majors were bolstered by 15 three-pointers as senior Elyse Warren became the first player in school history to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds.

Millsaps (12-5, 3-3 SAA) posted a dominant 48-29 rebounding advantage. Rhodes (6-11, 2-4 SAA) was unable to stop the Majors from 3-point range, where the Majors connected on 40.5 percent of their attempts (15-of-37).

Warren led the Majors with 22 rebounds while adding 14 points. The Memphis, Tenn., native also shot 6-of-11 from the floor against the Lynx to secure a double-double.

Juniors Garin Freeman (eight assists, three rebounds, two steals, two blocks) and Tia Anderson (10 rebounds, two assists, two steals) both contributed to the team with 21 points each. Anderson also played a huge role, boasting a double-double.

Classmate Bailey Johnson was hot on all cylinders in today's matchup against the Lynx. The Metairie, La., native accumulated nine points, four assists, and two steals while shooting 3-of-6 from both the floor and beyond three-point range while bettering a career-high of four assists.

In the first quarter, Rhodes opened with a 5-2 lead after knocking down a jumper and three-pointer from beyond the arc.

Both teams then traded points back and forth before senior Maddy Maw sunk a three from downtown to push the Majors ahead, 12-5.

With 5:20 remaining on the clock, Maw would send back her opponent's shot with a block to continue the Majors' defensive momentum.

Warren then made program history in the first quarter with 3:55 on the clock, grabbing just her second board of the contest to reach 1,000 career rebounds. She became the first student-athlete in school history to eclipse 1,000 career rebounds and 1,000 total points.

In the second quarter, the Lynx were able to go on a 14-0 run to pull ahead by three.

Junior Mya Richardson netted a 3-pointer, bringing the score 24-23 in response. Millsaps would close the opening 20 minutes with an 11-2 burst before the Lynx netted a 3-pointer at the buzzer to trail, 38-33.

The Lynx and Majors traded makes throughout the third quarter before a Freeman 3-pointer at 1:38 left in the frame unleashed an avalanche offensively. Anderson and Freeman added layups to give Millsaps a 54-49 advantage entering the fourth.

Millsaps secured a decisive blow in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lynx, 29-13. Warren initiated the scoring with a layup. Anderson and Johnson were instrumental, each hitting multiple three-pointers, with Anderson scoring at 9:11 and 6:23, while Johnson connected at 7:32, 7:06, and 6:00.

Freeman also contributed significantly with consecutive three-pointers at 3:09 and 2:24. The Majors pulled away with seven successful long-range shots in the final frame, securing an 83-62 triumph.
