Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Matchups in Tennessee

Majors Face Defeat Against Tigers, Scots over Weekend

MARYVILLE & SEWANEE, Tenn. — The Millsaps College women's soccer team dropped a pair of road matches over the weekend, falling 6-0 at Maryville College on Friday at the MC Soccer Complex before suffering a 7-0 loss at Sewanee on Sunday at Puett Field.

Match 1: Maryville 6, Millsaps 0

Freshman Kayla Borden made six saves across 90 minutes, and Millsaps also had two stretches in which Maryville had multiple shots and corner kicks without scoring.

Millsaps held the deficit at 1-0 through Maryville's attacking stretch from 13:40 to 23:23, with Borden saving a shot at the end of that sequence.

Maryville added three goals later in the half, while Millsaps earned a corner kick and a sophomore Rowan Crovetto shot shortly after the third goal. Borden finished the half with three saves, and Maryville led 4-0 at halftime.

The Majors conceded twice in the second half, making it 6-0. Freshman Haile Moorer generated Millsaps' two shots of the half, forcing a save by the Scots in the 66th minute and sending another attempt over the top four minutes later.

Borden made three saves in the half, and Millsaps held Maryville scoreless through a 76th- and 86th-minute stretch that included five corners and two shots before the match ended 6-0.

Match 2: Sewanee 7, Millsaps 0

Borden played all 90 minutes in goal, recording three saves, including two in the second half. Freshman Eden Birch registered Millsaps' lone shot of the match.

Sewanee generated 30 shots and 11 shots on goal, while Millsaps finished with one shot and did not put an attempt on frame.

Millsaps did get through multiple defensive stretches without conceding, including sequences in which Sewanee combined for 12 shots and six corner kicks, but the full-match shot totals left the Majors with limited attacking production.

The Majors were put under pressure early in the first half as Sewanee scored at 7:10 and 7:55 to go ahead 2-0.

Borden made a save in the sixth minute, and Millsaps later held through a 10-action Sewanee attacking stretch from 13:54 to 23:48 without conceding, including a team save. Sewanee added a 42:42 goal, sending Millsaps into halftime down 3-0.

The Majors spent much of the second half defending Sewanee pressure, and Sewanee scored in the 48th minute to move the score to 4-0.

Millsaps held Sewanee scoreless during a 61:45-6:587 stretch that included three corner kicks and a Borden save, but Sewanee added goals in the 71st, 80th, and 86th minutes.

Birch put Millsaps' only recorded shot of the half wide left in the 90th minute, and the match ended 7-0.

The Majors will be back in action on Friday to face Oglethorpe University beginning at 5 p.m. at Harper Davis Field  Live video will be available at FloCollege and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
