HUNTSVILLE, Ala. —The Millsaps men's and women's cross country teams ran well at the Southern Showcase, running at the John Hunt Cross Country Course on Friday. The Majors competed in the the Open races. Junior
Greer Hernandez placed an impressive 14th out of field of 239 finishers in the open men's race, covering eight kilometers in 26 minutes, 15.6 seconds.
Sophomore
Dallas Stricker made his season debut with a time of 28:59.5 to place 112th. He placed ahead of classmates
Benjamin Sylve (30:01.8; 155th) and
Mason Castleberry (30:18.5; 162nd). Castleberry also made his debut for the fall campaign.
Completing the Major scoring was freshman
Ethan Hall (32:06.0; 192nd). Hall placed one spot in front of classmate
R.T. Tate (32:08.1; 193rd) and five spots in front of senior
Phillip Antis (32:40.7; 197th).
Also competing for Millsaps for the Majors were freshmen
Kameron Willson (33:35.3; 206th),
Jonathan Brister (33:45.2; 208th),
Om Patel (35:33.2; 220th), and
Damaurien Graves (39:31.7; 230th).
On the women's side, freshman
Lila Jane Sekinger led the way with a six-kilometer time of 24:22.7, which was good for 142nd place. Classmate
Marlina Jones (26:14.4; 155th) and junior
Claudia Dempsey (26:16.3; 157th) only finished two seconds apart.
Freshmen
Caitlyn Bounds (26:33.9; 160th) and
Myla Walker (29:26.7: 176th) tallied the final places for the Majors.
The Millsaps men's and women's cross country teams will return to the course at the Mountain Goat Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn., on Saturday, Oct. 3, beginning at 9 a.m.
